The orbits of the outer planets are much further from the Sun and more spaced out than the orbits of the four inner planets. The orbits of Jupiter and Saturn, and two more gas giants, Uranus and Neptune are 5, 10, 20 and 30 times further out than Earth's orbit. The ninth planet, Pluto, is a small icy object in an elliptical orbit tilted to the other planet orbits, which are all close to one flat plane. Pluto can be nearer the Sun than Neptune.
